  • Cobb Pinot Noir Rice Spivak Vineyard 2015 -- 750ml

Cobb Pinot Noir Rice Spivak Vineyard 2015

    • Tasting Notes

My notes: Aromas of black tea, bergamot and tangerine zest jump out of the glass with deep red cherry and fresh red Fuji apple notes. Earthy hints of shiitake mushroom and Asian five spice also emerge. On the palate it’s quite finely textured with vibrant acidity and additional supporting flavors of lavender, pine and truffle. A highlight of the vintage.

    • The Vineyard

Cobb has been working with this exceptional vineyard since 2003, and have made a single-vineyard wine from its coveted fruit since 2006. We guide all the farming at Rice-Spivak, and have first pick of the grapes we want to work with. People are often surprised to learn that this is our most inland vineyard. Even so, at just six miles from the ocean it is still very much influenced by the marine climate. Made from a combination of Swan and Dijon Noir plantings grown in unique volcanic soils, this is always one of our most profoundly aromatic wines, making it delightful before the first sip is even taken.

    • Accolades

"The 2015 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard is one of the most vivid, nuanced wines in this range. Bright, layered and exquisitely beautiful, the 2015 is really singing today. Hints of rose petal, mint and dried flowers add shades of expression throughout. This beautifully sculpted Pinot is a jewel of a wine from Ross Cobb. The 2015 was done with 40% whole clusters and spent 22 months in oak."
Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media - 95 Points

“For Pinot Noir fanatics, winemaker Ross Cobb is making some of the best Sonoma Coast Pinot I came across all year… they're truly impressive wines.”
Ray Isle, Food & Wine Magazine

"The Rice-Spivak is superb. It derives from a 6 acre vineyard near Sebastopol, planted to the Swan selection and Dijon clones. The wine is aromatic, full bodied, round, and crisp, with a long flavor evolution (cherry, black tea, orange peel, rose petal, white pepper, oak), and a very long finish. Still a bit tannic; needs aging. Exceptional."
      Ronn Weigand, Restaurant Wine
