Cobb Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard 2014

    • Tasting Notes

Winemaker's notes: Graceful and thought-provoking, this wine seems to reflect the surroundings of Emmaline Ann Vineyard, with notes of raspberry and cherry fruit, secondary aromas of redwood forest, sweet sage, wild cherry and mushrooms, as well as a hint of ruby red grapefruit. On the palate, zesty orange and tart pomegranate notes are underscored by a racy acidity that carries the red berry flavors to an elegant finish.

    • The Vineyard

Year after year, our Cobb Wines Emmaline Ann Pinot Noir is always one of my favorite wines, and this is one of the best that we have ever made. With a southwest exposure and some of the finest soils on the Sonoma Coast, the 3-acre Emmaline Ann Vineyard is a tiny gem.. Because it gets the most fog of any of our vineyards in the Freestone Valley,  it has a nerve and sophistication that I love. At the same time, that cool coastal sunshine that shapes the far Sonoma Coast yields a vibrant wine with pure, lovely layers of fruit.

    • Accolades

“The 2014 Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard offers notable aromatic intensity and perfume in a weightless, gracious style that holds considerable near to medium term appeal. Cedar, mint, dried flowers and sweet red cherry all lift from the glass in this gracious, exquisite Pinot. All the elements simply fall into place with effortless grace."
      Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

"I wasn’t sure ‘infusive’ was an actual word when I wrote it down after tasting this astonishing pinot noir made by Ross Cobb. In fact, it is a word: ‘Having the power or quality of infusion,’ according to my musty old two-volumeWebster’s. This comes from a foggy, shady site planted on sandy Goldridge soil, not far from Sebastopol – and the wine does seem to infuse the senses with an aromatic fog that you can almost walk around in, noting a spray of juniper, a lattice full of roses, the cool moisture of the soil. There’s a tightness to the structure that will reward aging, but the impression is one of inner strength rather than weight."
Year’s Best US Pinot Noir - Wine & Spirits Magainze, 2017

"Ross Cobb has as much experience with Sonoma Coast vineyards as anybody, having worked at Williams Selyem, Flowers, and Hirsch, all notable Sonoma Coast producers. Ross, like Jadot’s legendary winemaker, Jacques Lardière who is currently making Jadot’s Oregon Pinot Noir, favors picking that grape earlier in the New World’s warmer vineyards (at least compared to Burgundy) to preserve secondary aromas and flavors that are essential to the character of the wine. For Cobb, the result is a spectacularly aromatic and alluring trio of Pinot Noir all of which weigh-in under 13.4 percent stated alcohol. The Emmaline Ann Pinot Noir (12.8 percent) is the real thing, showing the near magical combination of flavor without weight. Light on the palate, it makes a lasting impression on your brain with its combination of delicate fruitiness and savory herbal notes. Velvety tannins and perfect acidity amplify its elegance."

“The Emmaline Ann Vineyard Pinot Noir from Cobb is a simply amazing effort. This wine is beautifully layered and complex with striking aromas of strawberry, red cherry, red currant and floral notes along with accents of charcoal, cigar box and mint tea all coming together in this utterly compelling Pinot Noir. Elegant and harmonious, with simply gorgeous silky tannins and a remarkable balance with fresh acidity. Absolutely delicious today and will continue gain complexity as it evolves over the next decade."
      Joe D'Angelo, International Wine Report

“Subtle red with plum, strawberry and floral aromas that follow through to a medium body, light tannins and a fresh finish. Very fine."
      James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

"Sensational aromas of burnished cherry, spice, pine sap and wilted rose lead to a middleweight core of delicious cherry fruit accented with spice and cola. Seamless, elegant and polished with a generous finish that is unusually persistent. This wine tugs at your heart strings.”
      Rusty Gaffney, PinotFile
