Cobb Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard 2015

    • Tasting Notes

Leaping out of the glass with aromas of kirsch, blood orange, bay laurel and a hint of oak spice, this very youthful wine blends the rosewater and lavender notes of our Pommard clone from the 1906 Block with the black cherry and licorice notes of the heirloom varieties planted in the Old Firs Block. Powerful yet seductive, the 2015 Coastlands Pinot Noir is a wine for the long haul with its brilliant fruit intensity blending seamlessly with the core of silky tannins and juicy acidity.

    • The Vineyard

In 2015, we blended our Old Firs Block and 1906 Block together to create a classic expression of our cool, coastal home vineyard. It is a combination of Pommard and Mt. Eden clone from the 1906 Block along with the oldest vines on the property from the Old Firs Block planted back in 1989, before Dijon clones were available in California. This special block features three now-rare clones on the Sonoma coast: Wadenswil 2A and Martini 13 and 15.

    • Accolades

"A wine of real density and power, the 2015 Pinot Noir Coastlands Vineyard is going to need at least a few years to come into its own. Today, the tannins are forbidding. Even so, there is more than enough depth and resonance to show what the wine is made of. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, menthol, licorice and wild flowers all fill out the wine's ample frame. The 2015 is a complete, vivid Pinot that will thrill those fortunate to own it. Because of the tiny yields of the vintage, Cobb added fruit from his Old Firs and 1906 blocks (which are often bottled separately) into the Coastlands Pinot."
Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media - 95 Points

"An elegant, structured Pinot Noir of very fine quality. It is full bodied, finely flavored (cherry, rose petal, red currant, pepper, red licorice, black tea, lavender, oak), very long on the palate, and mildly tannic on the finish."
      Ronn Weigand, Restaurant Wine
