    Cobb Chardonnay Mariani Vineyard 2014

    • Tasting Notes

Winemaker's notes: Pure and focused, this Chablis-like Chardonnay evolves beautifully over time, slowly revealing its charms with notes of citrus zest, wet stone minerality and lemon curd, all underscored by an almost architectural beam of cool-climate acidity.

    • The Vineyard

Mariani Vineyard is a little 1-acre jewel located just inland from Tomales Bay in far Western Petaluma -- one of the coldest parts of the Sonoma Coast. It was planted 13 years ago by Eric Neil, who has been our longtime vineyard manager at both Coastlands and Rice-Spivak. Eric chose an old Wente selection of Chardonnay for Mariani. Now that these vines have some nice age, they are producing spectacular fruit, and a fascinating wine that effortlessly straddles the line between poise and power. Because demand for our debut vintage was so great, we made a bit more in 2014 -- but for a 1-acre vineyard this still just means 65 cases, so this wine will go fast!

    • Accolades

94 Points - Vinous - An addition to the range, the 2014 Chardonnay Mariani is a total knockout. Translucent and deceptively understated in the glass, the 2014 boasts superb energy and tension in one of the more finessed expressions of Wente clone Chardonnay I have tasted. White flowers and citrus notes abound in this striking, precise Chardonnay from Ross Cobb. -- Antonio Galloni
