Cobb Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard 2013

    • Tasting Notes

Winemaker's notes: This is an elegant and thought-provoking Pinot Noir from my favorite vineyard in the Freestone Valley. On the palate, it reveals abundant dark fruit layers of black cherry and raspberry, as well as more mineral-driven notes of wet stone and slate. Racy, crisp acidity and secondary characteristics of forest floor, herbs and spice add poise and complexity to this beautiful wine. A lovely expression of a wonderful vineyard.

    • The Vineyard

With a southwest exposure at an elevation of 800 feet, and some of the finest soils on the Sonoma Coast, Emmaline Ann Vineyard is a treasure. Located in one of the Sonoma Coast’s coldest microclimates, it gets the most shade and fog of any of the vineyards we work with. As a result, we absolutely love the Pinot Noirs from this tiny little site. Often the most subtle, sophisticated and Burgundian of our wines, Emmaline Ann never disappoints, and the 2013 vintage is no exception. It is eloquent, and at times ethereal, showing just how graceful and poised California Pinot can be when grown in the right conditions.

    • Accolades

93 Points - Vinous - Once again, translucence and transparency are some of the main signatures in the 2013 Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard. Orange peel, autumn leaves, rose water and a host of exotic spices lift from the glass in a weightless, gracious Pinot Noir that speaks to subtlety above all else. Interestingly, the Emmaline Ann is the wine in this range that is most similar across 2012 and 2013, which suggests the site has a strong personality that perhaps dominates over vintage. -- Antonio Galloni

This has a focussed and slightly reductive nose of dried roses, gunpowder and matchbook, while orange zest and cranberry carry the palate through to the finish. It's a beautiful, understated expression of Emmaline Ann that keeps you coming back to the glass. It will be interesting to see how further integration of the reductive elements will change it. 200 cases produced 22 months spent in French oak, 35% new.
