    • Tasting Notes

      Winemaker's notes: Once again, this diverse block of Coastlands has expressed itself with alluring notes of spice and dried savory herbs, as well as vivid fruit aromas of cherry, strawberry and black raspberry. Secondary aromas of Asian spice, white pepper and cinnamon add nuance and depth. Though the mouthfeel is crisp and lively, the tannins are soft and supple, adding texture and length to this lovely wine.

    • The Vineyard

      Now in its eighth vintage, our Diane Cobb Pinot Noir has become one of our most celebrated and sought-after wines -- and for good reason. Twenty-six years ago, when Diane and David Cobb planted Coastlands, they were pioneers. There were few vineyards on the far Sonoma Coast, and very few varieties of Pinot Noir that had been proven capable of thriving in the cool coastal conditions. Working with UC Davis Diane established a nursery block that contained over 20 Pinot Noir varieties. Today, these own-rooted, dry-farmed vines are some of the oldest in the region. Made as a co-fermentation of the Cobb Wines nursery Pinot Noir clones, our Diane Cobb Pinot Noir offers an almost unrivaled level of nuance and complexity.

      92 Points - Vinous - The 2013 Pinot Noir Diane Cobb: Coastlands Vineyard is once again very pretty and complete because of its overall balance. Crushed flowers, mint, sage, tea leaves and tobacco are some of the signatures in a Pinot that leans towards the more floral, savory side of things. White pepper, cranberry and orange peel add brightness on the finish. Next to the 2012, the 2013 comes across as lacking some depth. The pedigree of this site is so strong, though, that the wine is attractive just the same.

      Out of an extensive tasting of both new releases and library vintages, this was the knockout of the lineup. Aged for 22 months in French oak, 35% new, 275 cases were made. It has an intoxicating nose, equal parts floral, sweet, and savoury. The palate is deep and expansive, and the signature Cobb 'powdery' tannin structure wraps up the wine nicely. Over several hours this never smelled or tasted the same way twice. Highly recommended.
