    Cobb Chardonnay Mariani Vineyard 2013

    • Tasting Notes

Winemaker's notes: This is a beautifully balanced Chardonnay that effortlessly straddles the line between poise and power. Aromas of lemon curd and citrus zest rise from the glass, underscored by secondary layers of graphite, wet stone minerality and subtle cedar. The finish is fresh and focused, showcasing a structure with the potential to age for 10-15 years.

    • The Vineyard

In 2013, Eric Neil, who has been the Cobb Wines vineyard manager at Coastlands and Rice-Spivak for many years, let us in on the secret of a little 1-acre Chardonnay vineyard just inland from Tomales Bay in far Western Petaluma -- one of the coldest parts of the Sonoma Coast. Eric planted the vineyard to the old Wente selection of Chardonnay 12 years ago, with very close meter-by-meter vine spacing. While it’s too small a vineyard for most wineries to notice, it’s a jewel of a site that has yielded a very Puligny-Montrachet-like wine, with beautiful aromas and crisp, stately minerality.
