Cobb Pinot Noir Joy Road Vineyard 2008

    • Tasting Notes

Winemaker’s notes: Very intense aromas and flavors of plum, crushed blackberries, and slight caramel; earth, leather, and minerals. Creamy and tangy, with more noticeable tannin than the other two pinot noirs of this release.

    • The Vineyard

This pretty 2.5-acre vineyard owned by Terry Adams (who is also a professional winemaker), is located a short distance from Coastlands Vineyard, on a 1,300-foot ridgetop near Occidental. The soils are the sandy loams common to this portion of western Sonoma County, and the vineyard has been planted to four different varieties of pinot noir, very closely placed. This spacing and the unusual mix of pinot noir varieties define Joy Road Vineyard pinot noir, yielding a beautiful wine with a unique fruit profile, floral aromas, and a distinctive earth and graphite quality.280 cases made.

The 2008 growing season for the 2008 wines at our vineyards was another near-perfect event. The early season was mild. The pesky spring drizzle and fog that can reduce a crop - or if severe, eliminate it entirely - was minimal for a change. The coastal locations of our vineyards helped us avoid the hottest weather that arrived just prior to harvest, and the wildfire smoke that threatened all of us on the coast in late summer never reached our vineyards. Three bullets dodged. Not bad for farming

    • Accolades

Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar. Josh Raynolds. "Vivid red. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, blood orange, minerals and Asian spices. Lithe and silky in the mouth, with terrific energy and a light touch to the flavors of red berries, spicecake and flowers. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and excellent clarity. This pliant, youthfully taut wine has the nervy spine for aging." 92 Points.
