Back in 1989, when Diane and David Cobb planted Coastlands, they were pioneers. There were few vineyards on the far Sonoma Coast, and very few varieties of Pinot Noir that had been proven capable of thriving in the cool coastal conditions. Working with UC Davis, Diane established a nursery block that contained over 20 Pinot Noir varieties. In 1996, she doubled that block with a single variety that she thought was especially flavorful. Our "Diane Cobb" designate is made as a co-fermentation of the most successful of these Pinot Noir selections. While the yields were heartbreaking in 2011, resulting in just 75 cases, the final wine is pure and profound. While most of the wines in this release have not yet been reviewed, our 2011 Diane Cobb earned 92 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, and the 2010 vintage was one of theSan Francisco Chronicle's "Top 100 Wines of 2013."
