Origins
Exceptional Pinot Noir is a family tradition.
In 2001, two generations of the Cobb family came together to explore a shared passion for Pinot Noir. David and Diane were pioneers of the far Sonoma Coast when they planted Coastlands Vineyard with their son Ross in 1989. The convergence of Ross’s winemaking talents and his parents’ development of Coastlands Vineyard led to the creation of Cobb Wines.

After spending nearly a decade honing his winemaking skills, Ross approached his parents with the idea of founding Cobb Wines with a vision that would allow the family to guide every step of the process, from the farming of the vineyard to the crafting of a style that celebrated the site. The first vintage of Coastlands Vineyard Pinot Noir was a mere 130 cases. The wine sold quickly, and Ross never looked back.

Nurture versus nature is an old argument. Terroir falls right into that paradigm. Out on the Sonoma Coast we talk about terroir being the influence of everything from the salty ocean breeze to the redwoods and prolific conifers surrounding our vineyards.
